ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The University of Rhode Island women's swimming & diving team set six varsity records en route to an eighth-place finish at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championships at St. Bonaventure University. The four-day competition wrapped up on Saturday afternoon with Richmond winning the conference crown with a point total of 690.5. The Rams, meanwhile, finished with 215 points.

URI established four new relay records and two individual records, led by freshman Lillian Falconer (Chicago, Ill.), who established new records in the 200-yard free (1:53.55), 200-yard IM (2:05.26), and 400-yard IM (4:26.57).

"We had a great weekend with great results. This is probably the best weekend we've ever had at the A-10's," said URI head coach Mick Westkott. "We blew all the prognosticators out of the water who thought we would finish last on both sides."

As a team, the Rams set three varsity records. On the first day of competition, the 4x800-yard freestyle relay team of Falconer, freshman Kinsey Tarbell (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), junior Kelsey Foy (Fanwood, N.J.), and junior Martha Ziolkowski (Toronto, Ontario) placed ninth with a school-record time of 7:45.79. Falconer swam the first leg of the meet (200-yard free) in record time.

The second day of competition saw Falconer break the URI record in the 200-yard IM and also help the Rams 4x200-yard freestyle relay team etch their names into the record book. Freshman Alexandra Lalli (Middletown, R.I.) joined seniors Maria Cieslewski (Watertown, Conn.) and Cassandra Mizia (Manchester, Conn.) post a record time of 1:37.45 - good for a sixth-place finish overall.

Falconer opened day three at the A-10 Championships with a record-setting performance in the 400-yard IM. Later, the Rams 400-yard medley relay team of senior Caitlin Regan (Cranston, R.I.), freshman Samantha Veccia (Medford, N.Y.), Falconer and Mizia posted a varsity record time of 3:56.89, which placed them seventh overall in the event.

On the final day of competition, URI's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Mizia, Falconer, Cieslewski and senior Julie Kent (Ocala, Fla.) broke the sixth and final varsity record with a time of 3:31.16.

Xavier placed second with 488 points, followed by Duquesne (470), UMass (420.5), Fordham (414), St. Bonaventure (308), La Salle (225), URI, Saint Louis (214), and George Washington (189).

The URI men's swimming & diving team placed seventh with 287.5 points.
